Some of you might not be familiar with the brand Tonka. Well basically it’s one of the most popular toy manufacturers in America. Think of it as the american version of Matchbox.
But why am I talking about toy cars. Well Tonka teamed up with Toyota Australia, who built a real life Tonka Hilux Concept which is every boy’s dream!
A spokesman from Toyota’s design team stated;
“Inspired by the Tonka trucks that kids play with in their backyards, the HiLux Tonka Concept goes way beyond the already hugely capable abilities of HiLux to traverse rocks and other rugged terrain. The HiLux Tonka Concept is dramatic evidence that our local team loves to have fun, we’re keen to explore new ideas and we’re always looking to push the boundaries of what’s possible”
It all started with a Hilux SR5. The body work was basically ripped apart. We find a new front bumper, new grille, and a new bulgy bonnet. The body was lifted to provide better ground clearance. A new heavy duty suspension system was installed as well as 35-inch tyres. Under the hood we still find the standard 2.8lt turbo diesel engine which is protected by a 6mm bash plate.
But hey why don’t you have a look for your self. Unfortunately this vehicle will never make it to the production line. However it will be making a tour of Australia in various motorshows.
